VM 2.0.22 What happened to additional images???

In VM 2.0.20b I made products with additional images. Main image of 250*250 px for every product and for some products additional large images. For books for example, so you can read what's written on the back of the cover. By clicking on the main image a lightbox appeared and customers were able to page through the images. Main image always stayed the same.

In VM 2.0.22 the main image is changed, every time you click on an additional image. And so is your product layout..... this new way of handling main image is ruining my layout. And the buttons for further or back paging through all images are gone.

Is this a bug, a mistake or is this the new way VM2 handles additional images? I was very happy with how it worked in 2.0.20b, but very disappointed now.......

Yes, since vm 2.0.22 the additional images opens in main image position and you can click on this image to enlarge the images with light box.

A lot of users liked this way and so we have changed this to default.

Can you please then explain to me how this exactly works? Because I made a lot of new images, which now need to be resized manually because I don't want them in actual size on my product details page.

PS: In case you don't understand my question...... what is the optimal size for images now? And why using a lightbox when images already appear in actual size on your product page? The lightbox shows images in exactly the same format as the product page already does. SO it's useless now.

As I see it now images only appear resized on product detail page when they are over 600px wide. But images with heigth 800 px do not appear resized on product detail page. And that means my customers need to scroll to be able to click on a different image. Why not resizing images that are higher than xxx px?

Images on the product details page are resized by css - I have product images 800 px wide and on the details page the first image is displayed at about 300px wide with the additional images being thumbed until clicked then they take up the same size, ~300px unless clicked to show in fancybox.

Unfortunately we have lost the next/prev navigation in the fancybox, which was a requirement for a site I recently completed. Solved by using the default_images.php template file from 2.0.20 as an override where image display is back to how it was.

Resized by CSS of the Joomla template then I guess? Because in my template there is almost no resizing.

I am uploading images of max 600*600, thats a size that's acceptable for me now, since resizing is (as far as I can see) based on width only. I don't want images higher than 600 px in my product details page, because that means too much scrolling for customers.

Still not happy about this change, but I guess I'll have to live with it.
