Question on how child products can be viewed

Hi . . .

I want to add child products in my cart that have buy buttons instead of a dropdown list. Can that be done? All I need are the child products to display beneath the parent on the product description page as separate purchase points instead of located in a dropdown.

I've seen a third commercial party plugin named 'Catproduct' which does this. There might be similar ones.

That is what i also need, just with thumbnails, but if its possible, without any 3rd party component.

Is't not possible with some coding?
I mean if there is a dropdown list on the page with links, it have to be a way to show the images of those products.
The name of the pics are the same as the product_sku in my case.
