Deleting categories by mistake

Hi I am using virtuemart 2.0.20b and have accidentally deleted my main category. As it was the main cat and had sub cats I have read that it should not have been able to be deleted, is this true? And I have also been in to the database and all the cat information is still there and it is still showing on my site it is just not showing in my admin section of my virtuemart???

Help !!!
