I was using Joomla 3.4.5 and VirtueMart 3.0.9.  I upgraded from Joomla 3.4.5 to Joomla 3.6.5 for security reasons. After the upgrade when someone views the shopping cart they get the following message.  How do I fix the problem?

Really? That is about 2 years old now and known to be insecure. It was already late to be updating Joomla to a secure version, but you should look at updating VirtueMart also to be compatible with curremt Joomla. Obviously do this on a copy of your live site, as you may need to make template updates, too.  http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=118683.0
