I have now a Joomla! 1.5 with a VM Shop version 1.1.5
Later this year my server will be upgraded (PHP). At this moment I can only install Joomla! 3.2.7

If I install Joomla! 3.2.7, can I use then the latest version of VirtueMart or should I go for an older version?

I want to install J1.5 and J3.2.7 on the same server and use VM Migrator to get approx. 4400 products in the new shop.
Can someone tell me if this paid VM Migrator does the job. According the seller there should be no problem at all.
I have no problem with paying for a working product so I hope someone has experience with WM Migrator and could tell me if it works.

Thanks in advance for any response / advice,
Bert

Why can you only go to Joomla 3.2.7? I guess you host is still on a very old PHP version (5.3.x) and does not care about security?

I'm not entirely sure if VirtueMart 3.0.16 will work with J3.2.7 on that old PHP version - but in any case,  that version of Joomla will be insecure.   http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=118683.0
I suggest you first test on localhost using the same PHP version as on your host.

The Daycounts Migrator really does do a good job, especially for the inexperienced.  http://extensions.virtuemart.net/import-export/virtuemart-migrator-detail

Your 100% right about the PHP 5.3 version and J3.2.7
Its my own server located at a datacenter! I have asked if it is possible to give options to switch PHP Versions but that was impossible.
Because I'am in the process to get rid of some Joomla! 1.5 sites I can not give the oké to upgrade before that is done.

I have done some upgrades to J3.2.7 and now I started with this shop.
Locally I have now a webserver running with PHP5.3.29 and the Joomla! 1.5 with shop which works fine.
Installed also J3.2.7 but still have to install VM. I looked in the download list and that gives me the confusion because I see 3.x (VM 2.9.9.2), 3.3, 3.4, 3.4.1 ........

When all the Joomla! 1.5 sites are gone I want to upgrade PHP. A joomla! upgrade from 3.2.7 to 3.5.1 I tested locally and that also works fine.

Good to know about the VM Migrator.

Thanks,
Bert

Have a sort of similar problem.. upgrading a J1.5/VM1.1. to J3.5.1/VM3.0.16
client is very slow to config his new site so J1.5 has to stay running

J3.5.1/VM3.0.16 is running fine on php5.3 apart from currency symbols in the customs dropdown  ..
-> see e.g. http://www.stonemania.co.uk/j3/virtuemart/tumbled-stones/shungite-detail

can't be bothered debugging this as when I flip it to php5.6 or php7 all is OK
My host uses cloud linux so switching php versions is simply a click

If this is your own server, why you don't install multiple php versions and choose different ones for each domain?

The problem is the Joomla! 1.5 sites I still have running, they have to be upgraded. Customers are slow in deciding, giving oké to upgrade.
Let me explain about the server, its located at a datacenter and I pay for the server and maintenance. I decided years ago to do it this way so that I could have more to say about the upgrading process. Now I even have a bigger problem then in the time of Joomla! 1.0 The server runs PHP Version 5.3.3-7+squeeze22 and that means I can not go higher then J3.2.7.

For this one shop J1.5 / VM1.1.5 I have to switch to J3.2.7 / VM??? and when all the other J1.5 sites are gone upgrade to PHP5.5+, 5.6
When the upgrade is done I have to upgrade all the J3.2.7 sites to the latest J Version.

Its a lot of work this way I have to do everything twice. I asked allready for a PHP Switch but they are not supporting this and say its not possible. I do not understand why it is so difficult because locally I can switch to whatever PHP Version I want.

Thanks for the responses.
Will try tomorrow again to get an option to switch PHP Versions and mention Cloud Linux and multiple php versions

I have some historic Joomla 1.5 sites running OK on PHP 5.5 with error reporting turned off in php.ini

I have just this week agreed upgrades with them all and will be fixing those over the next month before updating the server to PHP7.

Just switched my local server to PHP 5.5.30 and this Joomla! 1.5 with VM seems to work.
Can't believe it (never tried it). In all Joomla! documention they allways wrote that it was EOL with PHP5.4

Have to investigate it! Have to know for sure not to have approx. 15 J1.5 sites down.

Thanks,
Bert

from memory the only probs I had with J1.5 on php5.5 was utf8 characters etc

e.g © etc

also check things like encryption if used
