We have a site http://www.mardens.co.uk.

On the main menu we have 2 menu items ('Home' and 'Online Store') that link to the shop, both with a Menu Item Type of 'Front Page'. The Home page is the landing page for the site so it is set to 'Default' and has some extra content. Both pages show the thumbnail images for the categories BUT on the Home page the link URLs behind the images contain "component/virtuemart" whereas on the Online Store page they contain "online-store"!
If you click through from the Online Store you get a properly formed page with the modules (assigned to the sidebars and set to show on all pages!) displayed correctly. However if you click through from the Home page the modules are not displayed.

I have read a few similar questions here in the forum but the explanations/solutions were very unclear. I would very much appreciate it if someone could take a quick look at the site and see if they can work out why the issue is occurring and what I can to to remedy it?

It seems to be both pages are in effect doing the same thing and are redundant in the eye of your user (customer) and perhaps the search engines as well, which is not ideal.

Either way, it seems you will want to change that second menu link to a menu alias for the store. This way, it will inherit the attributes of the primary menu item for the store.

Unfortunately this did the exact opposite of what I need to happen.
I changed the menu type of the 'Online Store' on the main menu to be 'Menu Alias' and pointed it to the home page. However that meant that the extra content that should be on the Home page only showed on the Online Store page and the category URLs on both contained "component/virtuemart" which is what I'm trying to get rid of. Trying to do it the other way round, making Home a 'Menu Alias' pointing to 'Online Store' also fails. You can't set the 'Default' page to that menu type!

I do agree that having 2 pages that show almost the same content is rather redundant but that's what the client wants!  ::)
