Price disappears if zero, does not reappear if selections made

Reading forums it appeared that with Virtuemart 2.0 you can no longer use the '=price' for drop down options on the products as you could on Virtuemart 1. This was a very useful feature.
I therefore found a work around which meant you create an initial selection box which has the value exactly equal to the product price. From there any further drop downs you can add the total price rather than working out what the 'additional' cost is all the time.
A problem this brings however, is that when the price is zero'd out within the product page, it disappears and does not reappear when you make a selection.
Example of it is here: http://www.fluelining.co.uk/component/virtuemart/flue-accessories/vitreous-stove-pipe/4-stove-pipes-detail.html?Itemid=0 - You will see the 'Size' attribute simply confirms the product but has a negative price to cancel out the product price. Any attempt to add from the drop downs and the price doesn't update, though it has worked as you can still add it to cart.
Any ideas?
