Downloadable pdf pages

Each parent product on our site has an associated page from our print catalog which we'd like our customers to be able to download from the site. I've created a custom field (called Downloadable PDF; custom field type is image) but when I attach it to a product, the link it creates on the product page is an ugly PDF icon. Is there a way to have a bit of text as the link instead?
