Trying to configure the way prices show up in detail and checkout

I am having the hardest time configuring how the price is shown in product detail and checkout. I am looking to show just the base price in categories and product detail page no tax and then in checkout show base price, tax amount, shipping cost and total. I thought 1.1 was complex but it was a cake walk compared to 2.0.
