search is not working properly

How some reason when I search for a product, it lists all the products on one page. 

I have set the Max products per view in frontend to 25 in the Configuration - Shopfront
and in the VM - Search, Virtuemart Product plugin the VM - Search limit is set to 25.

But when ever I use the search it lists all the products, and can cause an 500 error if there is to many products in the search.

Also in the forum I fond out how to stop displaying the categories above the search results.  Is there an easier way to do this within the configuration.
