Product list under a category

Hi
Under the Hand Tools category I want to change the layout. I have created a copy file of the default.php in com_virtuemart/views/category/tmpl/ and renamed it defaultTest.php. And in VM settings backend i changed Category Layout to defaultTest.php but nothing of my changes is showing? I changed Default number of products in a row  to 1 what I want and that working good. But why doesnt the changes of the layout working?


EDIT: Sorry, I have Joomla 1.7.3 and VM 2.0, clean install

I think this the right topic to make some questions:
Is there any way to switch between Category Views for my categories and my products in the front end?
For example I want to have the option to switch between a "1 product per row" list view & a "3 products per row" grid view, from my shop front-end!!
Is that possible?
The only thing I can do until now is to change the "Default number of products in a Row" and the "Default number of categories in a row" setting in the back-end (through Virtuemart  Control Panel --> Configuration --> Templates --> Shopfront Settings)

I'm on a J2.5.4 / VM2.0.6 installation.
