can a buyer change selected attributes after adding to the cart?

hi
i'm going to develop a custom plugin for a customer and he needs the attributes selected from that plugin to be changeable after adding the product to cart
ex: a buyer selects the color red for a shirt..then after adding to the cart he decides he wants to select another color...so he either gets a drop down at the cart itself with the selected value so he can change his selection or clicks an edit link somewhere that shows the product with his previously selected attributes selected so he can keep what he wants and change what he wants

is that possible without hacking the core?

I hope my requirement is same as you.

I need to have a edit button to the cart to allow the customer to edit the attributes they chose for a product without deleting the product and reordering it.
