I would say 2 weeks.

Not sure if this is already part of the features and maybe just not listed above but I would love to see some form of product filtering feature. Not many good product filters out there.

Also, will multiple vendors be available? e.g. listing a product that can be bought from various vendors at different prices, almost like price comparison.

I know you probably don't want to hear it here, and I welcome a pointer in the right direction.  But one problem I had with Virtuemart was selling products of different sizes and weights.  The original only allowed for shipping by weight, but an extremely light but large good would still cost more money as it would require a van not a moped.

Will any solution to that problem be forthcoming?
Will there be an easy upload potential?  My clients often already run shops and want to go online, but have a lot of products and uploading one at a time is quite time consuming.

It is working correctly in J1.7, its not fully finished. I would recommend you start learning it. It will not be long until its finished.

Will it be an option to only allow certain user groups to buy certain products or categories of products? I.e. not show the Add/Buy button to anyone but the user group(s) selected.

In version 2.0 inserted Meta Description and Meta Keywords is better, but I think insert Meta Title in Catalogy and Product same Com JoomShopping. Product Name or Catalogy Name don't show in Title, Title is Meta Title will insert more keywords and seo is better.

Yes. As many as you like.

I have two suggestions:

1) When creating categories and products have a Save & New button that will cycle through the new item or category process
2) When sorting or filtering by category have that category sticky so we don't have to continue to select the category while editing products in the same cat. This was available in VM 1.

Keep up the great work! I am very appreciative of how customizable and easy to use VM is.  VM 2 is a work in progress but still very good!

In a earlier message it was stated that the development should be completed in 2 weeks but that was more then 3 months ago.

I've been having a problem with VM 1.1.3 where the reordering arrows in the backend product list aren't working as expected. I've tried to detail the issue I've had here: http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=97982.0

Upgrading to the newest version of VM would be totally fine, I'd just like to know if this is a known issue and if it's been fixed.

Klezmer just try it, do not update your old installation, try it out first. vm2 has maybe 100 lines of vm1 left. So,... vm2 does not fix issues of vm1. It is a "new" shop driven by the same community.

Milbo please consider an option to create orders from the administrator (backend).

This seems something simple long time requested for version 1x and never implemented, after installing VM2 I see the option is still not there.

This is really needed for shops like ours were we take phone or e-mail orders.

Linda, this is a lot of work to add to the core.

Why not do it from the front end for them?

That's how we solve it nowadays but creating orders from the front end is not really the correct way I guess.

I know there are many people requesting features and addons but I was really surprised not to see this option in the core for the new VM.

It is really a lot of work just to add a "Create" button in the orders section?

I've read lots of post for VM 1.x requesting these but how do people solve it with the new VM 2.0 if the option is still not there?

What we did (in VM 1.1.8) is log in as those users (with master password plugin which I don't know if it's available on VM 2.0 + Joomla 2.5) and create the orders.

But I insist IMO this should be a core function and not a requested feature for a plugin or addon, damm even Hikashop allows this option.

we have been using this plugin for while 'VM Invoice'  on J1.5 & VM1 and last year they included 'backend ordering/create new order' system...works very nice too!
i am sure as things settle down with final working versions of VM2 & J2.5.x they will update their plugin :-)

Hi Xdotkor we are customers of Artio too and we use their invoice component, they did help a lot with those issues.

However their component is meant to create Invoices. Is great that they added an option to add orders but still is incredible that VM core doesn't do this.

An Invoice is a feature or an addon to a shop and I can understand that a 3rd party component does that and not VM itself, but not being capable of creating an order from the backend?

Let's hope VM developers think about it for the future, is really frustrating having to create orders in the frontend logging as users.

Yepp, and we created a basic system. createing invoice when order is set to confirmed. It is stored as pdf and sent to the shopper per mail. You can also just press a button and you get your pdf and you can store or print it.

I must create in e-commerce site for a client and I wish it on joomla 2.5 and virtuemart. Can you tell me when version 2.2 will come out of virtuemart. Too bad it was not planned from the beginning for joomla 2.5. The 3.0 version of joomla is already in stores, version 2.2 you will virtuemart compatible.

So maybe a release date?

JPFaucon, I wonder where you got your mis-information from? Joomla 3 is currently set for release in September 2012 - it is not yet at feature frozen stage. It will only be a short term (6 month) supported release, followed by another STR before the release of the long time supported version 3.5, due around June/July 3013. J2.5 support is continued for about 3 months after J3.5 is released. http://developer.joomla.org/development-status.html

Does VM2 work perfectly in Joomla 2.5? I read a forum member telling users to "stop playing with VM2" because they were struggling with certain features.

This is an excellent idea and I have been waiting for something like this for ages.  Isn't anyone going to comment on this very important feature?  Most, if not all of the major online shops, like Amazon, eBay, etc. have this 'Whishlist/Favourite' feature.  Even VM's competitors, 'RedShop' have this as part of their free package. In Joomla 2.5 when you install VM2 a link menu is not created, I had to re install VM2 for it to appear. This is an old bug and should of been fixed by now.
Also lack of documentations, like for example template creation, as we all know that VM2 is new and there not many out there.

I know there are posts here and there in the forum, but all spoken from a developer point of view, meaning you are assuming we understand the whole structure of VM2, to tell you the truth I have been using VM for 4 years now and I still dont get some of the "logic" behind things. A step by step with examples would be great, maybe gather ALL the posts out there and make it official.
The Wiki part is lacking too, again it is all assuming that you know what this and that stands for.

I think that´s a big challenge of free projects like this...

Most are programmers and there are missing people which would contribute to organize the information so its understandable for everybody. Is there anybody of those with VM2 understanding willing to contribute to this?

Can we start and create a wiki where we paste the solutions collected from this forum or other places and start improving this with more information on the go? There are some pretty good concepts implemented here but I do not understand their implementation and I guess quite most of the people will not understand those intuitively. Most of us are autodidactive people able to learn on the go but the basic concepts like how shopper group work or how multilanguage is implemented and impacts views of the site and much more do need first a clear understanding.

I agree with the last two posts.  There is nothing like step-by-step instructions even if they are tedious to write.  Simple english is preferable to "developer-speak".

BTW there is a commercial favorites/wishlist module out there and I use it for my live VM1.1 site.  The cost is reasonable and their lates version is 2.0 compatible.

When we remove a product or unpublish any product and visitors came to our site by some search engine ... they get a kind of message of errors like: "404 The requested product does not exist." etc...

Idea: It's possible to have any cookie and redirection link that detects the category of that product removed/unpublished and redirect our visitors to the Product Category to they choose the new product and dont go away from our product catalog. ? 
Or (solution 2) add any search box bellow the ERROR message to people can search the new product or update Sku. (with a message like .. "This is an old Product SKU. Please search in the Category Link or contact us for + info.. "

......
"Favorites / wishlist" and "Product Comparasions" are good feature.
But all kind of extensions are commercial only if any good developer person give/share the code to all the community we could get that for free...
the world is becoming more selfish.. so.. we wont get that.

I do not mind paying for modules if they are not part of the VM core or if they are great improvements over what is available for free.  The biggest problem with VM 2.0 righ now is the lack of "out-of-the-box" functionality coupled with usability issues.  I would refer that developers make it easier to migrate my exisiting site and worry about new bells and whistle later.

Don't get me wrong.  I love free.  But why re-invent the wheel when a low cost solution already exists?

Is there some adequate place for Virtuemart where feature requests can easily be put in a list, priorized by user votes and commented/improved by other users with related suggestions AND get a clear ACCEPTED, DECLINED, WILL THINK or whatever response by the development team?

I am thinking about something like Google Moderator (http://www.google.com/moderator/), Uservoice (http://www.uservoice.com/), or GetSatisfaction(http://getsatisfaction.com/)

Are there any plans to integrate virtuemart search into joomla search function. It works with the plugin so far. But Joomla 2.5  has an interesting thing integrated into the search component. It was an independent component before called jextended finder and is now native part of Joomla 2.5. The finder is able to index pages. Jxtended did provide a plugin to allow to do so with Virtuemart 1.1.xx. Are there plans to develop a plugin which works with Joomla 2.5 search component too? The advantage is, that the search goes much faster, if an index exists.

There is like no reply nowhere to be found regarding eu tax mode for vm2 but is pretty crucial when offering straight away payment for customers outside the original country. changing each bill to deduct the vat again is pretty hard work to do. A statement would just be nice, maybe everyone having this question is overlooking the solution.

Hello to all, and many thanks to the developers of this magnificent product!!!

We are currently developing sites with Joomla and Virtuemart and we have a customer request which concerns Virtuemart 2.
Our customer has parent products with child products created using the Custom Field stockable variant method. These child products have different colours and different images displayed when the child product is selected. The customer wants to have stock control on the product variants.

Our customer asks that when a parent product or one of its child products is displayed, there is color chooser so as to switch between the child products but without doing a whole page refresh.

We would need your advice in order
a) to see if such a feature would be implemented in the near future, and
b) if it is not going to be implemented, we would need you to point as to the right direction in order to develop/implement it.

For example: should it be a custom field plugin added to the products which would read if the product has child products and preload all necessary data so as to perform the image change when a user selects a value from a dropdown list?

For the time being, we have used a Generic child variant custom field on the parent product which is also inherited by the child products and offers the option of navigating into the child products but it is done by a full page refresh.

Feature list shows 1 page checkout (not by default). Where and how do I enable this feature that is not enabled by default? Is it ONLY by purchasing the plugin? If so, please do not list something as a "feature" when in fact it is NOT a feature of the original product, but rather something else you have to purchase that literally adds that capability to the system.

A feature of a product is something that exists. You do not go out and buy a new car that lists MP3 audio and built in GPS as features, but you have to buy them and have them installed in order to provide that feature. This is known as misrepresentation of the product.

If this is something that exists as an actual feature (built in functionality) then please advise how to enable it.

Is the review notification email in the works on your features list? Also a review list module or plugin would be nice.

I'd love to see the following features included in virtuemart...

1) A selection of basic themes - Nothing too elaborate, just some basic styling for the shop. Searching for compatible designes is a real pain in the hoop, especially as we're reliant on developers to update their themes as and when Virtuemart is updated.

2) Product promotion. Eg buy one get one free, free product on basket price, discounts etc etc.

3) Integrated creditcard paypal payments pro...

4) True one page checkout, everything on one page, no popup boxes or nav out to input shipment /payment/ billing details etc.

could be a saved address selection and a "My Adrresses" menu?

After testing VM2 It has changed my mind from the first versions which you should have never released. I'm sure you have lost many users thinking it was a crappy product. It looks better and better each version but I agree with most guys here, one page checkout is not really one page so please either make one real page checkout or remove it from the list.

Why on earth does the system say I bought a product and then I have to confirm it again and why on earth a user has to select shipping when theres only one shipping available.

Another negative point is that by default you make the user enter billing details at checkout, was much better with the old vm 1.x style where user already registered with his details.

I see version 2.1 at 97% done for 1 month http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/roadmap is that the stable one?

Can we build our website already without dramatic changes after setting all up? or is a planned stable version comming out?

Please look in to those basic things and will be even better.

The vm2.1 should be smoothed update, the only stress will be for 3rd party developers using customplugins. But the core is already ready. 3rd party devs can use the svn already to adjust their plugins. Everything else will be auto updated. We wanna do it even smoother than from 2.0.14 to 2.0.16 :-)

Hi Lipes I don't think this topic was created so that users posted "feature requests" but rather as a feature list of VM2. They already have their roadmap and I doubt they listen to other things that bug fixes.

There are many things you, the rest of users or me could post but tbh I preferr them fixing bugs and working in their already planned roadmap.

VM2 is only one year old and although each version gets better, there are many hidden bugs and fixes needed, quite normal considering how young this product is.

You are requesting very specifical needs for your shop (books I guess) is like if we asked them to customize VM to a fruit shop, you will need a developer for all those things, probably most of them already exist as 3rd party plugins etc.

We can''t use custom fields for that because when product variates ( eg. color , size ) the UPC variates too.

so f.e. Size L has an upc, size M another UPC

Could you add in next release an upc field for each custom field? I would do that, but I am afraid of overwriting on each update

After long discussion with Yannick of Yagendoo, we decided to add a GTIN to the product.

To add to any customfield a SKU and GTIN could make a lot of sense, yes. I am not sure if I can do it correctly for vm2.0, but we think about for vm2.1, then.

It will be nice if VM BE product could have a next/ preview navigation.
Utility example:
You use BE product search to find a few products that you want to change something.
Ok, VM finds then and you click on the first one to change it. When done, you save or save and exit. If you chose save and exit, you will have to do search again to find the next ones that here already on the first search list.
If we had a next and preview navigation on the product, you only have to do the search once; after that you make your changes on the first one product and click to save; Navigation to next, do the changes and save;...so on!

I see a delivery date field in virtuemart but it is not used. Asking a delivery date when submitting an order would be logical en almost a must have these days.
There is a plugin from CMS mart but that does not work flawless because they have to use javasctipt to insert the delivery date in the comments field in the cart.
Result: Somtimes no delivery date. Even if it is required (again, a javascript that has to do foe).

In the simpel form (v1):
Field that asks a delivery date with a jquery calendar.
Shop owner can block dates.
Dhop owener can make delivery date field required.
Look and feel like payment and shipping plugin.

The CMS mart solution is a plugin with a lot of workaround. You could contact them to see what they need to make their plugin perfect.

 it here, and I welcome a pointer in the right direction.  But one problem I had with Virtuemart was selling products of different sizes and weights.  The original only allowed for shipping by weight, but an extremely light but large good would still cost more money as it would require a van not a moped.

Will any solution to that problem be forthcoming?
Will there be an easy upload potential?  My clients often already run shops and want to go online, but have a lot of products and uploading one at a time is quite time consuming.

Having built quite a few shipping plugins I know that this is a complex problem.. there are many different approaches to this especially when you start having a mixed cart

It is straight forward to calc. the volume and compare weight to volume and pick the appropriate price based on a factor

but what factor? longest length?  volume? price per cubic something times a weight factor?
This sort of calc. is normally done with a plugin that fetches prices from e.g. AusPost, TNT , Fedex by sending weight and dimensions etc
to do a manual one you need to know exactly what your requirements are

How for example do u handle mixed carts.. a large light box and a small one.. then add 2 small heavy ones and a long tube..  nightmare...
