Title: Select child product by images
Post by: ksfbjoern on October 28, 2020, 17:07:45 PM
Hello together,

i am trying to find a way to display the child product selection not as a simple dropdown. I want to display images of the child products (the product images) instead.

I have attached 2 screenshots to show what i mean.

Is their a build in function in virtuemart or propably an extension/plugin to realize such a solution? Unfortunately, my search was unsuccessful :(

best regards

Bad idea, really I must look on mobile on picture 50x50 and thinking what do you show me? Why?
Better is showing only color square - look on PRO shop notino.cz - is not VM,not showing image, only color square - https://www.notino.cz/rimmel/lasting-finish-lasting-finish-dlouhotrvajici-rtenka/

Build function in VM - I think not
Extension/plugin - a lot of - find on google

https://breakdesigns.net/extensions/joomla/custom-fields-for-all

Sure are other extensions (from Patrick...) and cheaper, but I use from Breakdesign. I use 8 years and I'm satisfied.

Thanks for your opinion, but there will be possibilities to show those images on mobile devices with a good overview, provided I know how I can work with product images here, what my basic question is.

Great! Everything can definitely be programmed.

From a practical point of view, as an end customer, I don't know why I really have to scroll 2-3 screens of previews on my Iphone 4s for each stroller.
If I don't choose one type, I have to go to another stroller and scroll 2-3 thumbnail screens again.
And so indefinitely, when I close the eshop with the third type of stroller and go to another eshop, because I stop having fun :)

You really don't need to worry about buying UX (99% of programmers don't do that anyway), they're just thinking about how to program as many cool features as possible.
Unfortunately, this is just my opinion, there is no need to follow it.

---

I used to look for lipsticks also the possibility to choose variants using pictures. It was nice until I found out that I couldn't filter the images and their values == select all the red lipsticks (because the value was not red, but the image)
I preferred to convince the customer to accept color values or pay for custom development. He didn't want to, so there was nothing.

Feel free to keep looking :)

See https://shop.st42.fr/en/products/product-child-variants.htm
It should work as you want(you can enable or disable images/price/cart/ short description....)

Exactly as I wrote:

Just to comment that I recently discovered Patrick's  https://shop.st42.fr/en/products/product-child-variants.htm and what a clever and useful thing it is..

with a few template adjustments you can really transform parent child displays to just about any layout u can think of.

But I think Patrick you should describe it better and show some examples as its not obvious at first read what it does....

Pinocchio, if he only need this feature, i dont thing that a more complex plugin is needed.
