Title: Refunding
Post by: Ro Bert on January 22, 2018, 18:53:25 PM
When a product is sent back to us you can give the order the status Refund. But there is no a credit invoice. We have do this manually? Or is there an option to do this within VirtueMart? Or is changing the status the only thing you can do?

This is a manual process

Because VM is not an accounting system it does not naturally handle such things.

Hello

QuoteBut there is no a credit invoice.
Yes it is correct.
At the moment there is no credit invoice.
But we are at the moment implementing it.

QuoteBecause VM is not an accounting system it does not naturally handle such things.
Those are 2 different things.
An accounting system is a program that ensures the maintenance of accounting: ie retranscribes all the transactions made by the company with its partners (customers, suppliers, employees, partners, bank).

VM is not an accounting system, but a software that can deliver invoices.

An invoice is an accounting document that proves a purchase or sale which will be used by the accounting program.

As such VM must comply to some rules, which imho are common to all countries in the world. One of the important rules is 'not allowed to delete invoice', but there are others.

When VM does not edit credit invoices, then you have to do it 'manually' or via an ERP.

AS I said
QuoteAt the moment there is no credit invoice.

You have to do this manually outside of VM because VM does not currently provide the functionality,

When functionality is introduced then it may be possible to utilise VM - but I would wonder why you would do such a thing.

QuoteAn invoice is an accounting document that proves a purchase or sale which will be used by the accounting program.

Agreed VM records sales and can issue invoices if required and that is why details of all VM orders(not just invoices imho) should be capable of being passed to your accounting system.

You would do this for any form of software/hardware that records details of sales in your business (such as a cash register) In some cases this may be a manual entry process.

From the accounting system you can handle all the vagaries of your business including partial returns, replacements, refunds, partial refunds etc.

If you are running a business and have no accounting software VM will not fill that void.
