I am running VM 3.0.16 on Joomla 3.6.2 and using the gavick.com storebox template. I am also running PHP 7
My order entry, cart update and checkout all go ok, orders appear ok in my backend orderlist and print ok but the user gets the following message on their cart after checking out - prompt is view your order.
The error doesnt appear to cause any order processing problem but i worry it is and certainly customers will be confused.
hope you can help.
thanks

the url of "view your order"?
what payment plugin?
the url is: /index.php/shop/orders/number/Order-%202016-08-007?order_pass=7b8d2 and I am using a dummy payment method for testing. I can see that the order no in the url is wrong it should be %2016-08-007 the password is correct. The actual order number of the order is 19, so somehow I think the order has got out of sync. I did delete some old orders, is it possible this did it? Any quick ideas how to reset the order counter? Also I use the "advanced order numbers for virtuemart" plugin.
thanks for the help, even the question back helped a lot.

Hello
%20 is the same as space :)
You have a space that gets added Before the ordernumber. Check the code that creates the order number. Are You perhaps using the istraxx plugin ? Check Your syntax and if it is correct, talk to the plugin developer.

What a moron!!! Obvious. I was concentrating so much on the fact i had deleted some orders just before the problem but I had also "tidied up" the order number format. I HAD PUT IN A SPACE.
thanks for pointing out my stupidity, saved weeks of head scratching.
It was worse than that it wasnt the space it was adding any text. Extension was advanced ordernumbers for virtuemart. does what it says on the tin, but lets you customise the order format to include text (I put order [year]/[month]/# joomla/vm didnt like the "order" text. When I removed it the problem went away. perhaps it is buried in the documentation, i will check.
Quoteorder [year]
you have a gap between order & [year] so of course this won't render correctly -- it will be replaced with a %20 which then breaks the url path
use always for things like this no spaces or weird charactors.. logic hates spaces
try order_[year]
I tried that. it wont accept any text only fields and #
thanks for persevering.
then must be how the dev has coded his plugin
I think you should try my plugin http://extensions.virtuemart.net/shopper-order/orders/automated-numbers-detail
