I am waiting for V3 for a long time and I saw that it's finally about to be released. Does anyone knows when V3 will be ready and published for use on live sites? Will templates, which are now made for V2 work on V3 or will they need any modifications? Is V3 the same as V2 (only that it will work on Joomla 3*) or are there any improvements (new things available)?
The latest I heard/know
VM3 is nearly ready - everyone is back from summer holidays and testing is proceeding -> the more users that make the effort to download and test and report - the faster it will be done
http://dev.virtuemart.net/attachments/download/761/com_virtuemart.2.9.8a_extract_first.zip
this is not the very latest - you can always contact Max (Milbo) to get the latest test packet
VM3 will be backwards compatible - i.e. usable with J2.5 as well
On J3 most templates, extensions and plugins will need updating for J3
There is a huge number of improvements to speed, custom field s etc etc on VM3
e.g. http://docs.virtuemart.net/tutorials/product-creation/186-derived-products-product-pattern-child-products.html
so - start testing if you want to speed up the process - I have built 2 very simple J3/VM2.9.9 sites and they work fine - but both catelogue sites with no prices or checkout etc
Where can I report bugs? I can't find any bug tracker. I wanted to wait for new release (maybe 2.9.8b or 2.9.9) and then test it thoroughly, but I'm not sure how far from final release VM is right now (is that one week, one month, more months,..)?
Bug reporting, suggestyed fixes and discussions here: http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?board=136.0
http://extensions.virtuemart.net/ already uses VM3 but there are still bugs, and for some users there could to be problems for some months, especially if they want to use J3 where there could be a long wait before third party plugin developers update their code. Internally we are already testing VM2.9.9+ VM3 will be J2.5 and J3 compatible.
Oh, OK, I thought that's only for VM2.
If you are already testing VM2.9.9+ when do you think final version will be out so that third party plugin developers can start update their code? Do they have to make drastic changes or just some minor (if only minor I think most of plugins will be updated soon).
Quotethe more users that make the effort to download and test and report - the faster it will be done
if it things like shipping and payment plugs it basically xml updates
things like my reviews extension need extensive rewrites
Hello Folks,
On the server where I host my webshop site I have staging functionality so I can clone the website and use the copy as test website. It is still a Joomla 2.5.24 site with VM 2.6.6. I want to upgrade this site to Joomla 3.3.3 and VM to latest and am willing to test VM in this copy website to help development to stable VM3.
How should I proceed? First upgrade to Joomla 3 or first latest VM since it is backwards compatible?
Thanks for feedback. Fred Mellink
I installed the 2.9.8a version but run into problems and submitted a ticket on the forum in the support folder.
Where can I download a copy of VM3

About to start a new project,
I have used virtuemart in the past on j1.5 and j2.5
Looking to use the VM3 rc 2.9.9 on joomla 3.3.4
Currently what i want to know is, as updates are released will you be providing easy updating of the component from the backend of joomla? or do i need to manually check and do this?
As mentioned previously i have experience with virtuemart, i usually configure as following:
user checks out cart and rather than deal with shipping and payment, would only need an email of the order sent to store admin, containing user and item details.
This project is a 2-3 month project during that time i am willing to help with testing before it goes live. Please help with my decision on using the virtuemart component or should i find another solution.

2.9.9 has already been used for some store sites, such as http://extensions.virtuemart.net/ and updating is easy, although there is not yet a path to update stockable variants from VM2, but this is being worked on. Problem at the moment is that J3.3.4 can cause issues (where J3.3.3 was fine). The bug list of 3.3.4 is such that I'd expect 3.3.5 pretty soon!
Give 2.9.9d (or the next one) a try. The more tester we have the sooner the stable release can be made available.
Just to add

Have been testing vm2.9.x from the start and have completed a couple of simple sites with J3/VM2.9.
Updates are painless - just re-install each time a new version comes out..

And there it is, 3.3.5 has been released yesterday. When approximately can we expect release of final VM 3 (week/few weeks/month/few months)?
Yes J3.3.5 was released yesterday - and within hours Joomla advised on Facebook and Twitter that users should not upgrade to it but wait for 3.3.6 (and 2.5.27).
If you have done some testing of the 2.9.9 releases then you will know that it is close to final RC, but more testers and their reports are needed. I am building a site client with VM2.9.9x right now.
Hi @ll,
just need a small hint when VM3 will be released? more than a month? more than 2?
just wanted to know cause I have to "upgrade" / develop an old 1.x VM and so I'd prefer to wait some days before doing it twice.
1-2 Weeks. Promised! Before 1. November
I have seen in other threads questions concerning the multi vendor support for VM3. I also see in the config for the 2.9.9x series some indication of multi vendor. Will this be available for the stable 3 version? If not, any idea when we might look for multi vendor in VM3? I have a site I am looking forward to getting started on using a mutli vendor ecommerce cart and would like to use VM for it. Thanks.

Hi randlieb it is great that you are looking for options for your store. I'm sure that you will find the Multi-vendor option in VM3. I'd encourage you to test out 2.9.9.2 version to see how it works and maybe help out test and trial that option. The more testing and more posts the closer we get.
Hi. I set the config to multi vendor mode. I also found this page (http://docs.virtuemart.net/tutorials/44-multivendor.html) concerning setting up permissions. But that's as far as I can see. I don't see how to set up separate stores in the BE or the FE. Can you point me to any documents/tutorials that deal with the multi vendor mode? Thanks. Would really love to be able to get into this and test it out but don't know where to go from here. (I am not a developer)
There are extra functions in VM2.9.9.2/VM3 for administered MV, but if you are not a developer then you will at least need assisance, such as through http://extensions.virtuemart.net/support/virtuemart-supporter-membership-detail
But it sounds as if you are confusing multi-store with multi-vendor.
Hi,
When is the official release for Virtuemart 3?
See attached: a Joomla 3.3.6 site with Virtuemart 2.9.9.2
One drawback: the K&K Youtube plugin doesn't work anymore. And despite it was a paid extension, K&K stopped development and now it is availabe on the VM website. So I need to purschase it AGAIN

@jenkinhill
I want to have multiple users able to add their own products/categories etc. from the frontend and have a checkout directed to each separate user paypal account. I guess setting up their own separate stores would be ideal.
I read about official VM3: 1-2 Weeks. Promised! Before 1. November
Well, we are already a week furhter.
Hello,
please let us know when it will be available the official version of Virtuemart 3.
Developer with whom I have subscriptions makes extradition conditional on the release of new products from the official version of the V3.
I know that the term was already given, but two weeks had passed and still no V3.
It will be released when ready. Have you been helping to speed the process by contributing some time to testing the RC versions and reporting any bugs you find in the development forum? http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?board=136.0
How about administrations design? The backoffice... looks horrible right now. Any chance that's going to be more streamlined? It's hideous to be honest
Then come up with an improved layout. All contributions to the project are welcome.
VirtueMart 3 has been released. http://virtuemart.net/news/latest-news/465-virtuemart-3-is-here
Hello Jenkin,
That is great news! Is it a stable version?
Hmmm -- if you have a look at the downloads server you will see multiple 2.9.xxx versions
then VM3 is released and announced .. so the conclusion is....... ?
And every experienced VirtueMart user will know that even numbered release versions are stable versions..........
Ok thought so but was doubting about it because of the following message on download page: 'VirtueMart 2.6.10 is the latest stable version available'
Thanks VM team for your latest release - Utillized latest for my templates soon ;D
