Title: using extrafields for taxes
Post by: sgs on July 24, 2014, 12:21:50 pm
Hello!

i have a complex problem.
I have to apply VAT taxes only to private users and not to companies. Now, i have this idea:
in the registration form, i add a select field (by using extrafields in virtuemart) where the user can select if he is a private or a company. After this step, i calculate the taxes only if he select "private"...

Now: how i can use in php files, the "PHPSHOP_SHOPPER_FORM_EXTRA_FIELD_4" ?

Is there other idea?

Thank you!

Using VM1.1?

Are you really going to let your customers decide whether they pay tax or not without any checking?  Don't think you'll stand a chance in a law court when the tax office decides to recover the tax you didn't legally charge....

There is a VM2.5 ext to do it legally - http://extensions.virtuemart.net/vm-orders/eu-vat-id-checker-detail

won't of course work on VM1.1 but there may have been a 1.1 version - can't remember

The proper way to do this is in registration - get them to fill there EU VAT ID - check it againt the VIES database - if valid allow them to checkout without tax
