Hi,
This is my first Virtuemart website I am building, and my client asked me if the SSL license absolutely necessary ?
He will be using Paypal and Authorise.net as payment vendors.
Since I have very little knowledge on virtuemart. .. I decided to ask everyone here.
Thanks,
It isn't really a VM question - it is a general web based ecommerce question (SSL isn't of course "nesscesary" to run VM if that is what u meant)
If your using the standard Paypal you are just redirecting non "critical" info to the Paypal site - so in this case no - once on Paypal it will be ssl
For Authorize are you also using a plugin that redirects to the gateway? or internally collecting credit card details etc.. and posting within the site its-self?
Thanks GJC !!
I will be using the Authorize.net option that virtuemart comes with (under payment method)
For Aurthorise.net the card data is entered on the store site. If you set up the payment system you will see on the configuration page in bold " You must have a valid Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate."
So yes, for that payment method you need a valid SSL certificate and a dedicated IP address to work with that certificate.
A certificate is not essential for standard PayPal payments.
Which is why many small merchants stick with Paypal even with their "arbitrary" tendencies... :)
Thanks!!
I just test the paypal option out. I cannot seem to checkout. it takes me through the process and asks me for payment option and then only gives me 2 options "Save" or Cancel.
is there something I have not turned on?
no versions - no live site url...
Virtuemart 2.0.2

Very old version VM
3rd party template ... http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=108212.0
(I updated the Virtuemart to 2.6 )
the template company says they don't support it because it's not a template issue.
and I can't get support here either cuz it's a third party template. .. I'm screwed !! :-\
I have a website that works perfectly till some one tries to check out !??
At that point you get professional help - ;)

At a first glance it looks to me like a configuration problem.
You should add a 'customer' menu with menu items pointing to the cart, customer history and account maintenance (select corresponding menu types in the menu item configuration).
Also check your shipment and payment configurations if you filled out all necessary fields.
You may have a look at these links (the first is an old one, but I think it's still valid):

Also this forum thread might help to figure out why customers are redireced to your hompage when they try to select a shipping or payment method:

Tehy have alink at the bottom of your site
Your also not helping yourself.. have you tried any of the suggestions for this sort of problem on this forum?
Have you searched the forum?
If so you mention nothing that you have tried..
Stuff like try the std template
try with SEF switched off etc etc
any ship, payment or confirm just goes back to the VM homepage
this suggests to me some sort of url problem - 3rd party SEF comp installed?
