I have this problem,
I received this email from paypal:
Check the server that handles the Instant Payment Notification (IPN) PayPal. IPNs sent to the following URL is not valid:
http://www.xxxxxxxxxx.it/shop/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=pluginresponse&task=pluginnotification&tmpl=component&lang=
If you do not recognize this URL, it is likely that your service provider is using IPN on your behalf. Contact your service provider reporting the above information. If the problem persists, it is possible that the IPN has been disabled for your account.

I read a topic like this many times the last few days. Concerning other shop software too.
The tenor is, it is a Paypal problem.

I also ran into this problem and created a ticket about it. Check it out, it has a little more info concerning the notify url. Hope someone can verify my findings.
