I have noticed this annoyance in the previous version of Virtuemart & hoped it would be resolved by an update. (It wasn't)
When I'm displaying the products in the admin control panel the products display the thumbnail until I select to display more than 20 items

Once I change my selection to 30 or more the thumbnail disappears

Also after changing from 20 list items the option to go back to 20 disappears from the dropdown list

I have updated to VM V2.0.24c on Joomla! 2.5.16 today
Also I changed the admin template & the issue still persisted

WAD, not a bug. The default limit of 20 is so that those people who list hundreds of products on a page don't run out of resources! On some cheap hosts even listing 40 products can be demanding when thumbs are shown, too.
It is, of course, configurable. In Configuration/Templates, under "Set the pagination sequence for the List Box" the option is "Max items listed displaying media" which has 20 set as default.

I set the limit to 1000 and all is good on my server also notice that the Backend default items per list view is 20 so that is why the value 20 disappears once a list selection is made.
