Some people wonder why we removed the categories view. The reason is that the categorieS view is the same as the categorY view, just not showing any products.
For easier maintaining it is a lot better to have one view and the possibility to select different layouts. So how todo this?
There are two main ways,
either you use the joomla menu setting (/administrator/index.php?option=com_menus). Just select the category view (in case you get mixed up, just delete the /components/com_virtuemart/categorieS folder) and choose the categories layout.
Or use the layout setting in vm. You can set it for all categories or per category. Check your vm config or category settings
