Title: This must be the world's worst VM2 shop! :-) Art Gallery
Post by: jjk on November 14, 2012, 19:57:21 PM
This must be the world's worst VM2 shop, because:

- it's done by a php illiterate amateur (me) with only very basic html and css knowledge, not by a "commercial website designer" or "ecommerce expert"
(I mean those 'professionals' who frequently write bad reviews about VM2 in the Joomla extension directory saying it doesn't work :-)
- it doesn't entertain customers with a funky slideshow
- it doesn't use a 'shop template', just a simple free Joomla template
- it doesn't use any third party SEF extension
- it doesn't use Joomla cache or any third party cache extension (Now has Joomla 3.x conservative cache enabled)
- it's bilingual, but doesn't use a third party translation management extension
- it's runs on a cheap 3.5 Euro per month shared server (but despite this loads pretty fast)
- it uses a free SSL certificate
...
:P http://www.kiekebusch.com/en/ (http://www.kiekebusch.com/en/) ;D using Joomla 2.5.8 and VirtueMart 2.0.14 (at the time of writing this)
- initially holding 500+ products with 1500+ images

Meanwhile the shop is using Joomla 3.4.1 and VirtueMart 3.0.8 plus a free mobile friendly responsive template.

Deserves nothing but handclaps! The best VM2 promo ever, working like a charm, flying like a bird! You may probably add: "Takes half an hour to rise up from scratch!"

D...You may probably add: "Takes half an hour to rise up from scratch!"

Haha...
That would be a lie and that probably is the most common mistake which commercial website developers make, when they say "I can do that pretty quick" to their customers.
This site is indeed built from scratch, but I stopped counting working hours after reaching 1000. To date it's probably close to 2000 (includes a lot of experimental work trying to learn how VM2 works). And there are still plenty of things on my ToDo list...

I never thought about the favicon showing the Joomla logo, although I'm looking at it every day  :)
The login module is the standard Joomla login module. I didn't make any changes to that.
