Title: Product order inside category
Post by: DaggaTora on June 18, 2012, 10:41:23 AM
2.0.7F... product order in category doesn't save. It keeps always the same unless you move up or down with the blue arrows. It is a nightmare if you have lots of products to order.

DaggaTora,

Hi - I can see a few have read your post and maybe I'm a little like them > I'm just not sure what you mean?

* the blue arrows?  is this front end or back end or a template - could you use an image to show us?

Sorry I am not sure what you mean?

Jajajajaja, ok then.

I mean in the backend, when you are inside Products and you want to order them "by order". You select a category so you can assign an specific order and you have:

Prodcut Z=1
Product X=2
Product Y=3

Then you set the reordering order numbers like this:

Product Z=3
Product X=1
Product Y=2

so when you click on the "floppy disk" you expect the following order:

Product X=1
Product Y=2
Prodcut Z=3

but it keeps the original order.

If you have 3 products it doesn't matter because you can use the blue arrows to move them up and down, but if you have 1000 products in that category... you can spend hours moving up and down instead of reordering them assignig them a number and clicking in the floppy.

Hope it is clear now!!  ;D

DaggaTora,

In VM1 - I saw this with a client- the solution there was to get the SKU numbers order like 0001 , 0002 and so on- not the best solution . But by renumbering or making sure you set them up correctly they did stay in the right order. ( I know after 20 products - that solution is not the best).

* I did see an extension called bulk orders - I used it to change the prices of 200 products. - have a look for it . I'll see if I can find it.

In the SKUs   make sure you leave a gap  like 0001, 0004,    so if  a new product appears you can put it in.

I hope some one answers better than I with a better solution.

Hi John,

Thanks, but i can't use that solution because we are using barcode numbers for SKU.  :'(

HOW CAN THIS STILL BE A PROBLEM!!!!

Is there no way to fix this? I tried using the arrows, I tried entering in amounts. In my one category there are only 8 products, but it forcefully puts the order of the one product at 9!

PLEASE CAN WE GET A FIX FOR THIS OR INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CORRECTLY USE A WORKAROUND!!!

You can always do it through DB. If you only have 8 products this will be your fastest solution.

Hi there

Last version is resolved

There is a trick on this one kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Just do this:

1º go to products

2º on the field Filter, put what you want

And that´s it it appears a 4º columm with zeros and click save and then change the order and save again

Best Regards from portugal

PS: After testing, on save it dosen´t change the order, at least it appears the floppy drive to save

Unreal... Here we are in version 2.0.18a and VM STILL has an issue with ordering! It's ordering not ONLY by SKU but also product name. DUMB

I'm not able to name the product what I want because if I do it goes out of order. Even though the SKU is set up to make it go in alpha numerical order the product name is over-riding this.

Example of how I want it:

Product name - 20 pack     SKU - A25
Product name - 100 pack   SKU - B100

etc.

But VM decides it doesnt like it in the order I want it in and puts 100 pack at the top

Thank you VM team for your awesome contribution to the Joomla community but please, try implementing some of the most BASIC functionality first

There are so many different orderings. Please explain exactly what you mean.

The ordering depended by category works.
The ordering for childs products to change the ordering in the dropdown works.
bdragon254, do you know that the there is an whole tab in the vmconfig with the ordering settings? You must set there as standard ordering, the "ordering" of the product. The default is the ordering by product_name, yes.

Hi Milbo

Inside the products, i can see the floppy drive, but if i change up or down a product and then click on save, the ordering keeps the same.

That´s what we are talking about.

Products ordering

I want my products to be listed from the most expensive to the least on each category page. I have changed the order in the back end, but it continually shows from least expensive to most.

I have looked in the configuration section but I can't seem to find the method that works.

Hi Milbo,

Manual Product ordering needs to be an option. Is it in the roadmap for VM?

Hi guys

Can someone confirm if this feature is working in 2.020b?

What we are trying to achieve is order by "product in stock" to show the products with available stock first inside the categories.

That is what we have set but seems to have no effect,

Regards

EDIT: I have chosen sort products by "order" and manually choosed the order from the backend which solves it.

How did you choose to order by order and set the order in the backend? That is availale for categories, but I do not see any option for setting an oder column on products. Am I missing something?

I should have said categories and child products, but I don't see any option for products.

This is what worked for me:

And in the products list for a category I set and order and save it:

I tried with product availability but It didnt work as expected, showed me one with stock, another without stock.. then 3rd one with stock so this way we could arrange it.

BTW im using VM 2.020b, have no clue on previous versions.

That is strange. I am using the same version and the same configuration setting. I see the ordering column in the Categories, but not in the product list. Here is what my product list looks like.

BTW, you always have to mannually set and save the ordering column once before it starts working in my experience. Then you can use the arrow links.

You have to select a category first at the top left in filter where it says "select product category" then it will allow you to save an order for products inside the chosen category.

Check my second image and you will see I have category "Mandarinas" at the filter selected.

Yes exactly, that is what I described and did.

Wow! That helps. I haven't seen that before. I have categories with subcategories and I don't have to do that to see the order column. Thanx!

The reason is that you can have different orderings per category. I am sure you are happy that I just found this small hack and added it http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=115829.msg390255#msg390255 .

lindapowers, I tried the same, but when I save this setting, the frontend show me the first time all ok (by ordering), but if I choose for example sku, after that I can not sorting again by ordering...
And if I choose ordering too (not only by default, but also Available Sort-by fields), it doesn´t work either.

I only want to see the products by ordering  :-\

Te mando un saludo!

Sorry but I have not tested in new version, im still waiting for translation packs to be avi before updating.

What I posted is what it worked for me in 2.020b, don't know if they have made changes there or not. Maybe someone with new version can help you but it should work the same way if you set it correctly.

Works now even with dragndrop. Important is that you choosed a category, OR go to the parent. This are different orderings. one for each category, the other for childs.

I am having issues with this too. It looks like even though I have default product sort order set to ordering, it is instead ordering by product ID.
