Title: Shipping Modules?
Post by: tt_chatter on February 12, 2012, 03:46:16 AM
Several people have asked and no one has answered. Where are the shipping modules for UPS and FedEx located?

Answer is "they don't exist". :http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=92976.msg305688#msg305688

Perhaps Virtuemart should remove some of the features listed on the features page....

QuoteShipping Modules
flexible Shipping Carriers and Rates Configuration
Live-Shipping Rates using Shipping Modules (e.g. InterShipper, UPS, USPS, FedEx or Canada Post; Modules can use the Shipping Rate API).
extend your Shop with other Shipping Modules using the Shipping Module API!

Wow that sucks! So we have to hire someone to build the dynamic shipping module.  This has lowered my opinion of Virtue Mart.

Where do you see that? Plz tell me, i will specify that it is  the list for VM1, but not VM2.
The feature list for VM2 is here:

Why would there not be support for the UPS shipping module? We need this! I FINALLY figured out payments, and now I run into this problem. Also, the manuals are outdated, so theyre no help and there is so much "documentation" in multiple areas that it just blurs together.

Hi,

QuoteWhy would there not be support for the UPS shipping module?
Ofc there will be one. But it is difficult to develop everything at the same time. :)

Hi VirtueMart team,

I just adopted to VM2 and found out it's short of shipping modules. I am wondering when these modules will be converted to VM2 in the product roadmap? Thank you.

Best regards,

Victor

What shipping method(s) do you need? The basic shipping plugin is highly configurable, and there are others coming available, eg see http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=98228.msg324764#msg324764

I am referring to the CanadaPost module that was available with VM1.1. Is it going to be ported to VM2? Thanks.

Best regards,

Victor

There is already a third party developer working on it (http://www.exps.ca) - it may already be available now. See http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=96743.0

I have noticed that developer's work. But CanadaPost module was free with VM1.1, so there is no plan to port it to VM2 at all?

Thanks.

TopPretender it is not a simple case of porting, it would need rewriting almost completely. ISTR it was originally donated to VM1.0 by a third party, but some people could not get it to work so exps developed one that did work. The role of the VM dev team, which is Europe based, is to create a stable core and for third parties to provide payment and delivery plugins such as CanadaPost which are country specific.

I too am looking for the UPS Module. I see there is one available for United States Postal Service, but is there one coming soon for UPS? I have this website completely ready to go, and was sad to find that there is not an option for UPS Online Tools Shipping calculation, to enter an access key from UPS to calculate shipping! Virtuemart Developers, you've done a GREAT job with the new environment, is there any way to get the UPS option back for VM2?
Thanks in advance!!

Perhaps if someone from the development team contact UPS, DHL, FEDEX, PayPal, etc.

Those companies may invest some of their own developers´ time to make their respective modules for Virtuemart 2. At the end of the day they will be the most benefited $$$$ with this. They will have a great ROI.

This will be a win-win-win situation for:
1.- Companies like mentioned before, in terms of fees $$$
2.- Virtuemart community (users), in terms of finishing their inexpensive e-commerce sites $$$
3.- Virtuemart Development team, in terms of satisfaction and reputation of their opensource e-commerce platform.  ;D

eldravo

Just to let y'all know that I've wrote to exps.ca in april and they announce me that they will not produce any canada post pluggin for VM2.
Instead, they have decided to bypass Virtuemart and to sell a complete shopping cart solution that include the canada post module. - http://www.poe-com.com/

Several developer said they work on something in the last months, but we still haven't seen nothing offered to the public.

So by the time we wait for those saviors pluggins, what do we, canada post users, can do ?
