Title: Is there any translate project online?
Post by: Gruz on February 07, 2012, 22:36:57 PM
Where is the correct place to translate VM2? I've seen Milbo's page here https://www.transifex.net/projects/p/virtuemart/
But it seems to be dead. Closed I don't understand why. Maybe it was needed to close when actively developing. But now...
There are several separate pages like Turkish or Portuguese. Is there any root project? That would be the right way, as for me.

Concerning Transifex, please read this: https://www.transifex.net/projects/p/virtuemart/announcement/1552/ (https://www.transifex.net/projects/p/virtuemart/announcement/1552/)
We had a number of problems with translations on Transifex. So we decided it makes more sense to try to support translators here in the forum.

You will always find the latest english language files if you follow the links to the frontend and backend language files in this post: http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=89336.0 (http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=89336.0)

If you want to do a translation (Ukrainian, I suppose  ;)), I would recommend to use tools like the Joomla component "Localise" and/or "Notepad++".
When you have a translation available, you can upload it here. If it's complete, we will upload it into the SVN.

If you have any questions concerning translation of VM2 file, please ask in this forum section.

Bad... I wanted to collaborate with other users. Ok, I've established a Ukrainian project at trasifex.

One of the problems with Transifex is, that "Collaboration" doesn't work in most cases. If you want a translation as soon as possible, you will probably have to do all or most of the translation work yourself. It is possible to translate VM2 within a few days of work. If you wait for others to supply language files, you might still be waiting for a complete translation after three or more months.

Let me know (in May) if I'm wrong  ;)

I know, that ONE person MUST translate everything. But there are som trusted users, which can often fix improper translation or translate newly added lines. Collaboration is needed surely after the main work is done for supporting the translate project.

Besides I suggest to make VM load english language anyway and the load the curren language to avoid language constants in the interface if not translation is provided yet.

I use something like this in my extensions:
$lang = JFactory::getLanguage();
$langcode = $lang->get('tag');
$lang->load('com_virtuemart', JPATH_ADMINISTRATOR, 'en-GB', true);
$lang->load('com_virtuemart', JPATH_ADMINISTRATOR, $langcode, true);

I'd add this somewhere here:
administrator/components/com_virtuemart/helpers/config.php

Thanks for your suggestion.
Personally I would rather add a tooltip urging the user to add the missing line into his language file (However, I'm not a developer :-).

In the debug mode it should work as is now, to see the untranslated lines. In normal mode - as I've suggested.
I'm againts tooltips.

Let me expain once more.
There is a Russian translation. The main user DaVinchi was unavailable several days, new VM pre-releases appeared. Another user could not get in contact with DaVinche created a new branch of the translate (uploaded his updated translation to a server) with the newly appeared lines translated. Now there are 2 branches. Common users are confused what branches to use.
There should be on official "trunk" and no translate branches. That is what I want mainly.

We want that too and are thinking about different solutions to maintain translations here on virtuemart.net. But in the past few weeks the developer team has still been busy with more important things.

Thanks!

The language variable issue is fixed for backend, but not for frontend.

Thanks for the order page:

Hi,

Ok, i will do it for the FE, i will add an option . By default, it will be translated.
Otherwise, for translators purpose, they will have the possibility to disable it.

Already asked to some other projects to also join and delete their files so only one place to do the work!
