I have a problem with 'recently viewed' list not being updated when using the 'product-neighbours' navigation (next, back).
This perhaps is caused by the way joomla displays pages and loads new product pages without loading the modules around it (header etc.).
Though it would be nice to see this list being updated at the moment a new/next product is being viewed.
Maybe this isn't the right way to post this question, if so, let me know please ;D

You can disable dynamic update for product neighbors so that clicking next/previous product will load whole page normally. This will increase load times though.
Another thing you can try is to add recently viewed products to product details template override.
