Client asked me if this is possible for their site! Their idea is that if the customer selects a product that is out of stock, "it recommends the nearest thing"! We already use the Related Products functionality so this would need to be something additional but similar. An example from their site of 2 products that they would want to link in this way are:

Has anyone tried to do anything like this?
We're using Joomla 2.5.27 and VM 2.6.10
