Title: Dynamic Thumbnail Sizing Irrelevant?
Post by: ironlion37 on May 01, 2013, 23:10:21 PM
I notice in VM 2 on the Configuration > Templates tab, I can turn on dynamic thumbnail resizing and set a value (i.e., 250 x 250 instead of default 90 x 90).

However, this has no effect when viewing a category page showing products within the category. The thumbnails are just being resized via CSS down from the full product image (browser resizing - ugh).

So my question is, where are the thumbnails even used? In VM 1, changing the dynamic thumbnail settings actually had an effect...

You can't tell me that VM doesn't use thumbs? That it can only load full images in all instances??!?!?!!?

You are right, I had to deal with that as it is worse with additional images, try resizing 30+ 200k images to 50pixel height on slow internet (huh 50 px, yes it is hard coded in css). Bit of a disaster in my opinion.

I guess similar solution for category images is needed.

Oh no. That was not the answer I was hoping for!

As more and more internet traffic goes mobile, VM2 reverts to browser resizing. That makes no sense!

Maybe the team expect everybody to get a 4g mobile connection!
