Using New Multi Variants VM3 - Images & fields Names

I am testing using the new Multi Variants, that are now available from 3.0.6

I have set up the demo install & also trying to replicate in my own site but have these questions;

1 - If I add an image to child product1, how can I get this image to show in the store, when a users selects this specific product by the ramification fields?
I have added an image as expected to a child product, but when the product is selected in the front end, only the parent image shows

2 - Field Names - Currently only the dropdown shows up. How can we set up the ramification fields to show a dropdown, but also show the title as well i.e Size, Color, material, etc  see screenshot idea.

It would be great to have some feedback. I just can't make it work either and have been trying for weeks, I also can not find any good documentation. It is very frustrating.
