Sub Category Images and Description not displaying

I am running VM3 and our subcategory images or descriptions is not displaying. No errors no nothing-just the title and products show up.

My first question: Is there just a setting in config somewhere to turn it on?

Or: Do I have to create an override/hack the code?

I did get the description to show by adding this: $this->category->category_description;
I tried changing it to category_image but not working.

Any help would be appreciated, and thank you in advance for your time.

Please provide a link, sound maybe stupid, but I do not really understand what you mean. Do you talk about the virtuemart frontpage? or the category view? and which state? and which setting. Upcoming vm3.0.18.1 maybe interesting for you.
