When customer doesn't complete order for what ever reason, then order is in pending state.
After logout/login customer is not presented with last pending order, therefore must start from beginning.
I can only see order history but option to continue in pending order is missing.

Can you advise? Joomla 2.5.9, VM 2.0.18a

That is default. If you want shoppers to be able to save their cart then there is a plugin to do that: http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=103570

Hi jenkinhill,

we need an option to edit/add products to pending orders.

When customer makes and order for very heavy product (greater than 10kg) Shipping cost must be calculated by one of our staff. Once we know cost of shipping we contact customer to charge them for product and shipping. This has to be done outside of virtuemart :(

Ideal would be if we can add cost of shipping to the pending order. Customer would then logged in and saw price for the product and price for shipping.

In other words we would prepare order and customer would finish it by going through checkout stage.

Do you know about any plugin, which would allow us to do this.

You have already worked out how to force selection of a payment method - http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=114466.0

For those heavyweight items use a purchase order type of payment setup, ie there is no charge at that time, the order can be placed and then ATM you can contact the customer  with the full cost or invoice them. One of my clients sends out a PayPal invoice at that stage. The problem is currently that although the customer can review their order in the VM BE there is no option to pay from there, and the ability for the vendor to edit the order to add a price is not yet there- it should be in the next release version, 2.1.

Thank you for reply,

I've done more or less same thing as you've suggested. Next step is to develop proper shipping module for TNT, this would reduce all workaround to minimum.
