Title: Looking for image optimization utility
Post by: Shimon Hirschhorn on December 29, 2015, 19:32:34 PM
I am looking to improve page load time on our site.
One of the issues is image size.  I have many images that are large or high resolution.

Can anyone suggest a good utility that can go through all the images and optimize them / resize them?
Preferably a utility that will handle JPG and PNG .  If not, then 2 utilities.

I have searched for such a utility, but what I have found does not work well.  Either they are limited to small batches of files at a time, or they crash, or they skip over some files.

Thanks

Optimizing page load times is a massive subject, but an interesting one ;).

When it comes to reducing (Joomla) page load times, the best results I've ever had was with Amazon S3 / Cloudfront and the JomCDN plugin : https://www.corephp.com/joomla-products/jomcdn

However, the image optimization service they relied on (smush.it) is not around anymore but I know that they're working on a replacement.

There are most likely tons of other options out there. But this one worked for me and gave amazing results. And my site is very graphic heavy...

Best

I always spend the time on optimising to exactly what I want before going near the server

for a very good freebie..  http://www.irfanview.com/ -- handles batch conversion very well

or of course Photoshop etc

or there is a simpler interfaced http://www.fotosizer.com/Default.aspx
