Hi there,

I have a working VirtueMart 1.1.4 stable on my Joomla 1.5.26 website, updating the core to the latest 2. 0.24 version went fine, but installing the second extensions part, the screen goes blank (white) and nothing happens , also when I try to open my page where VM was in the frontend, its also blank...

Anything I can do to fix this?

A white screen indicates a 500 error, which should be recorded in the server error log.

Did the VM migrator not give an error message? Did you follow this plan?: http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=102783.0

Also see http://docs.virtuemart.net/tutorials/30-installation-migration-upgrade-vm-2/77-upgrading-vm1-to-vm2.html

Must admit I have always updated old VM versions to 1.1.9 before migration.

Did you remove first all the old VM1.1 extensions as you say it's the AOI that is failing..?

Hi there,

No I didn't remove anything, I just tried to update by installing the 2 packages, now i see in another testcopy of my site that I can also try updating from within VM, but that doesn't work either, no updates show up?

So if i first remove all extensions, won't that mess up the way my shop works now? Do I have to start all over again or something?

I don't need to change anything, but they tell me the old version has been 'hacked' , spammers are sending spam from within one of the php files ...so I really don't know what I should do with that

you can't just throw VM2.xxx at it and expect it to work -- there are so many good posts here about the correct way to MIGRATE to VM2

it is not an upgrade

Actually I havent really got time for complicated procedures since the suspended site came totally unexpected and I have other work to do...

I patched 1.1.4 to 1.1.9 for the moment, that seems to work, is that a safe version?
Is it likely that I have replaced the file that was sending spam doing this?
That is actually all I want to achive for the moment, they will have to put the block off the site that they put on at my host....

spammers are sending spam from within one of the php files ..
Is this a Joomla file, a VM file or some other extension?  It is important to know which file so appropriate action can be taken. Just updating VM won't help if it is some other part of the installation that is at fault. Have all other addons been checked for version security? Was the security patch that became available a couple of months ago for J1.5.26 installed?

Hi Kelvyn,

It was this file , at least they told me at the webhost support:

administrator/components/com_virtuemart/languages/common/english.php

This file they said contained code that was sending out spam messages, I say it had been replaced with a newer one after the update.
I'll have a look at the security patch, I installed an older copy of the 1.5.26 full package, I' m not sure where to find updates for older Joomla versions, since all they have on the site is the newer ones?

Link to the security patch is in here: http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=118683.0

Is normally just a language file with no exececutables.  I have located that file from VM1.1.9  and attached it here in case it is any use. The issue that the latest J1.5.26 patch was to fix is the ability for hackers to upload files onto the server....
