We've opened a Virtuemart 2 translation project using the Transifex translation platform for those who don't want to set up a translation environment on their own computers. Transifex is easy to use. For each line of text there is an 'Autotranslate' button, but please don't take it for granted that the automatic translation is always correct. We would like to have a good translation, not a funny word by word (automatic) translation.
The master files are updated to be in sync with Virtuemart SVN
This project seeks to help virtuemart users with the translation and assist Virtuemart Team to prepare localized language packs.
The official language releases are posted at the Virtuemart Site and SVN
=> How to join translation?1- Create an account at Transifex (free plan) https://www.transifex.com/signup/open-source/
2- Please apply to your language team at Virtuemart transifex project https://www.transifex.com/virtuemart/virtuemart/
You will be able to translate online after approval.
3- Team leaders will be appointed by VirtueMart team
[Update Nov 2012: Note: Please also apply to the second project for "Virtuemart Payment plugins" -
- https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/virtuemartplugins/ ]
==============
=> You started a translation for a language not listed? Please post the link at this VirtueMart forum so it could be uploaded there and improved/finished
=> Download files under translation? Please use the Transifex client and our pre-configured configuration file. Download via browser requires further changes on the file name.
=> Want to keep a copy of translations files in your computer? (a visual guide will be available soon!)
1- Use the transifex client command line tool inside a folder for your language files. It is available for download here: - https://github.com/transifex/transifex-client.
An installation guide is available here: - https://docs.transifex.com/client/introduction.
2- Start the client only to create the skeleton and config file, then stop, don't run the autolocal setting!
(note: the first time you run the client it requires our Transifex login account)
3- Change the config file and
use this config file instead: http://db.tt/e6eHmZW4
(included are the lang maps and file name changes).
4- Then use this command at your project directory (sub-folders for languages will be created):
tx.exe pull -l xx_XX
Note: change xx_XX by your ISO lang code (note the underscore)
=>> To download master files use the SVN files or enter this command at the client:
tx.exe pull -s
=>> You can also download all files from the transifex project using this command:
tx.exe pull -a
Important note for Linux users:
The config file posted here needs to be edited for Linux systems: in the path lines all \ has to be /
You can edit the file with a plain text editor!
=> Make it an install package? If you download the files using the transifex client and also using the cofig file provided, the language INI files will be downloaded into 2 separeted folders (admin and site).
Then you just need to create a XML file with the proper data to be installable (as any other extension language)
So, lets translate... one line or two each day! Some languages are already near 100%! And yours?
Apply for a team language here https://www.transifex.net/projects/p/virtuemart/
(https://www.transifex.net/projects/p/virtuemart/)
This is how it looks when editing!(auto-translation available in each filed to avoid repetitive tasks)
How to create local lang packs:http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/wiki/Writing_translation
Is this possible to download the latest language version as an installable pack somewhere?
Because if no, then it's useless for the majority of the users. The files have to be no only downloades, but also renamed.
My suggestion is to write a script to automatically prepare and deploy installable language packs somewhere at the VM server.

Not at all! Please read the line above:
=> To keep a copy of translations files in your computer?
If you use the config file using the link above. Then your download will have the correct names, files will be in 2 folders (admin and site). Plain and clean... also ready to be copied into a site.
To be installed you just need to create a xml file but that is not the point here.
Transifex its for translations and they are not the official packs to common users donwload!
On the download to use:Virtuemart will make the files available in their download / SVN areas
Also each translators team can distribute their packages if they want!
So please use the config file for transifex client that I posted above and then run again the command:
a) To Download master files (en-GB):
tx.exe pull -s
b) To Download translations for a single language
tx.exe pull -l xx_XX
(Where xx_XX its the language code)
c) or a full copy of the transifex project (all files and translations)
tx.exe pull -a
Here you will find more options:
http://help.transifex.net/features/client/
Also: Please use the client new version (0.7)
Thanks! Great!
On transifex virtuemart translation project you can find, below the language list, a section for "releases" (Transifex releases, not Virtuemart releases!):
Each Transifex release gets independent progress bar and its own front page and helps maintaining the translation for each language.
See here: https://www.transifex.net/projects/p/virtuemart/
All Resources – A collection of all the resources of this project (auto-managed by Transifex)
extras – Special addons for Virtuemart
VirtueMart Admin – Virtuemart Admin files
VirtueMart Site – VirtueMart site files
Virtuemart Payment plugins – Virtuemart Payment core plugins
[Update Nov 2012: moved to a separated project - https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/virtuemartplugins/ ]
From there you can have all files for your language on that "release" and see what need to be done (independent progress bar and own front page).
This way you can focus your language team to one set of language files.
Note: you need to contact your translators and plan with then, there is no way to split the language team!
The full list of files its allays available at the main entrance page or at "all releases"
Virtuemart ships some plugins that only works on specific countries (eg. payment and shipment plugins) so they do not need to be translated on all languages
You can see the list of plugins/countries at Translation of payment and shipment language files http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=100525.0
A comment will also be included on each language file header!
For Transifex translators [Update Nov 2012]
The special plugins for virtuemart (payment and shipment) have now a separate project at Transifex
VirtueMart plugins localization - https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/virtuemartplugins/
The main project are just for the core files required to any language, its located as always at:
VirtueMart localization - https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/virtuemart/
Nice... many thanks for this :) :) :) :)
Great use of Transifex. I'll translate VM into Vietnamese. Thanks for your great VM :)
Vitor Otero requested the creation of a Galician (Spain) language translation for the project VirtueMart.
May 18th - New version of languages files uploaded to Transifex.
Update required by Virtuemart new version (2.0.22)
There are 4 new files, 3 of them was split from 2 previous ones. Old translations from those files where reused.
Please revise your language translations! - https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/virtuemart/
If you use Transifex client its required a new config file as there are new files.
Backup/rename your translations folder and download it all again!
.TX Transifex client config file: download it here - https://sites.google.com/site/transjoomla/joomla-projects/tx-customized-config-download/virtuemart
25th June 2013
The source language files have been updated again in preparation for a new VirtueMart release.
Translators, please check if your translation is up to date at https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/virtuemart/
:)
I realize that updates for lang files are not created automatically, or am I wrong?
I have translated some missing terms in Finnish, but they are not showing up to the downloadable lang pack.
As far as I know Transifex sends updates to virtuemart.net once per day, usually some time during the night. But I can update the language packs manually, too. Check again in an hour or so...
Thanks Jjk !
Good to know that there is auto-schedule for updates.
Polish only 14%? Come on fellas let's get together and do it!
There is a language file missing!
VM2 (ADMIN)com_virtuemart_order.ini
The language file for the SITE is present, but not the one for ADMIN. Could you please add this file in all lanuages?
Then we translators can translate the order status and more...
There is no VM2 (ADMIN)com_virtuemart_order.ini in VirtueMart 2. Which version of VM2 do you use?
I use VM 2.0.24 at the moment.
In admin > Configuration > Order Status I see (pls see attachment)
I know that these order status comes from "install_essential_data_sql (line 64 ff)
INSERT INTO `#__virtuemart_orderstates` (`virtuemart_orderstate_id`, `order_status_code`, `order_status_name`, `order_status_description`, `order_stock_handle`, `ordering`, `virtuemart_vendor_id`) VALUES
(null, 'P', 'COM_VIRTUEMART_ORDER_STATUS_PENDING', '', 'R',1, 1),
(null, 'U', 'COM_VIRTUEMART_ORDER_STATUS_CONFIRMED_BY_SHOPPER', '', 'R',2, 1),
(null, 'C', 'COM_VIRTUEMART_ORDER_STATUS_CONFIRMED', '', 'R', 3, 1),
(null, 'X', 'COM_VIRTUEMART_ORDER_STATUS_CANCELLED', '', 'A',4, 1),
(null, 'R', 'COM_VIRTUEMART_ORDER_STATUS_REFUNDED', '', 'A',5, 1),
(null, 'S', 'COM_VIRTUEMART_ORDER_STATUS_SHIPPED', '', 'O',6, 1);
these strings should be translatable. I know that I can use language overrides to translate these in my shop. However, a new user is at least irritated because of these not translated expressions:
Pending, Confirmed, etc.
But somewhere must be a GB language file!
This language file should be translatable on Transfex.
Thanx
The order status strings are in the file ...\language\nl-NL\nl-NL.com_virtuemart_orders.ini. Maybe you are using an old dutch language file. Current language files are available for download here: http://virtuemart.net/community/translations
If you have a multilanguage shop, you would have to use this way to translate the strings: http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=101664.msg350570#msg350570
In this case the translation works similar to this: http://docs.virtuemart.net/tutorials/36-multilingual-store/105-using-language-keys-in-form-fields.html
Thanks.
However...
QuoteThe order status strings are in the file ...\language\nl-NL\nl-NL.com_virtuemart_orders.ini.
this language file does not effect the backend. It is used for emails to Shopper.
My suggestion is to improve VirtueMart by translating all English strings by default. Thus make it easier for users.
1 Ditto on the last note.
2 The update at Transifex that sombody said occurrs every night don't seem to work more than maybe once a week. I started on the Esperanto translation last week (26th nov) when it said 55%. During the night it upgraded to the 62% I had reached, but since then it's stuck on 62, even though I have now reached 82% since yesterday.
I run Mac and afaik there is no client to push any files, so I'm dependent on CTransifex. Could whoever upgraded manually last time, do it again, please?

Manual updates are usually done by me. So if you have that problem again, let me know. Transifex is supposed to update the cTransifex files automatically via webhooks. But since Transifex changed a lot in the past few months, I'm afraid we have to wait for a cTransifex update, before it works automatically again.
Please note that downloading package for VM 2 core some files are missing i.e. the file for nl-NL.com_virtuemart.zip contains only the XML-file.
Just downloaded it from http://virtuemart.net/community/translations/virtuemart/nl-NL
P.S. On Transifex all files are translated for 100%
Thank you!

Should be fixed again. Somtimes ctransifex creates incomplete language packs for a reason we don't know yet.
I just saw this post and was intrigued to find out a little more.
I need French and Finnish translation.
Is it totally free? If so, is there a way to donate to the developers by PayPal or something? I could really do with something like this but can't believe it's free!
Maybe even donation by Bitcoin... I mean, if an Aussie pub is accepting it...

Is there anyone who cares to keep the English Source files up to date at Transifex?
Anyhow I think it's time to consider moving to Crowdin, as it's a way more translator and manager friendly system ...

The main files should be up to date. The rest follows as my time permits. BTW - I wonder why Norwegian never hits the 100 percent translation mark for the core files. ;)

I know you prefer Crowdin as you are a manager of the Joomla translations on Crowdin. But as long as transifex is free for VM, I'm not going to change to Crowdin. That would just be a lot of unnecessary extra work for me as well as for a lot of translators. People also frequently try to convince us to use Github instead of Redmine (SVN). Both systems work and both have their advantages and disadvantages. However, the current VM team has an established workflow and is happy with what we currently use.
Yes you updated one file manually yesterday. You could make it auto, if you have time issues.
Norwegian newer reach 100% since nobody cares to translate, and it's not the only language, it's actually the same for most languages ( http://virtuemart.net/community/translations/virtuemart (http://virtuemart.net/community/translations/virtuemart) ). Maybe the issue is somewhere else than at the translators end then ... just saying. There is t.ex. "English" strings that hardly could be understood by other than the dev, and questions asked on the strings at Transifex is never replied to, are they ... ;) Me personally doesn't have so much interest or confidence in VM any longer, and thus doesn't put much time in it neither. Once in the time you had Norwegian 100% thanks to me and others, but not anymore no ....
So please stop "defending" yourself by "telling we don't do anything". If I or anyone else ask you to consider changing anything, to improve the situation, we actually do a lot already ...
Your workflow for Transifex isn't looking very stable, it can sometimes take several releases and months before the source files are up to date. Anyhow Crowdin is also free for VM, you just need to contact them to make it happen. For translators it's way less work in Crowdin, and you as a manager could get all automated there to, so the hours spent on setting it up once isn't the border, the border is the mind and will.
But OK, fine that you're happy with the language situation. Just continue on then. :)
Btw! CTransifex seems to need a kick in the ass, it's not updating the language packs.
So could someone please kick it once a day?

Most of the time it works, but it frequently produces an error updating a language pack if somebody is working on a translation on the Transifex site while ctransifex tries to update a language pack. So far nobody found the reason for this malfunction. I have to initiate a the recreation of the language packs manually whenever this happens. When you see a duplicate language pack of your language pack on the download page, that language pack is broken.
OK, good to know. Thanks.
Sadly CTransifex has crashed again: http://virtuemart.net/community/translations/virtuemart

Thanks.
Seems like it doesn't like someone working on translations. :)
Great use of Transifex. I'll translate VM into Greeks and Bulgarian.
I would like to be on the Spanish translation team. My translations are now just "suggestions", but will not go to language file unless some member review my translations.
Some translations are awaiting review more than 3 years... Others are incorrectly translated, and although they have corrections, as they are not made from someone part of the team, they just stay there forever, behind the incorrect translation.
For example, "millileter" its translated instead of "milimiter", which is obviously a simple letter mistake.... well, i have my site with a language override just for this, since 2015... Even when the correction has been made, but not reviewed >:(
That said, i would like to be part of the team. Not an important part, just a part that can make corrections when i see mistakes, or strings missing. Its very frustrating to make language overrides, when it can be corrected in the source, not just for me, but for everyone.
Can someone help me with this?
Regards!

Sorry - now I understand what you mean. There are wrong translations (typos) and you can't correct them because 'manuxx' or one of the two coordinators set the wrong translation to 'Reviewed'. I've just added you as a second Reviewer, so you should be able to 'unreview' and correct them.
Thanks for adding me to the translation group!
Finally i could change one wrong translation that has a correction suggestion waiting for 6 years! It was like a splinter in my mind :o
I will also help to finish Spanish language :)

You have been already in that translation group as a 'translator', so you were able to translate 'unreviewed' and new strings. However, If one of the two coordinators or the spanish 'reviewer' marks a translated string as 'reviewed', a 'translator' can not change it anymore. I did upgrade your group status to 'reviewer'.
Happy translating! ;)
How can i make an installation package?
Ive made several corrections, added missing strings and reviewed translations. How can i install this in my website now like an installation package?
From Transifex website i can only download each file independently, and with wrong name.
Language packs should be downloaded from http://virtuemart.net/community/translations
Note there is most likely a delay in the build process. Meaning you can't change something and then download the updates a few seconds later, better wait till next day - I guess.
Thanks!
Just downloaded, but still the old ones. I will check later :)
3 days later and the file still not update.
Ive read that translations are retrieved from Transifex using CTransifex component. And this updates the files every time a language file gets completed and maybe other rules configured by the website admin.
Its weird, because the other day ive spent several hours finishing ALL translations and checked all strings pending review, to leave a perfect 100% Spanish language completed.
Hope someone could help me with this, now the language is complete, the files are not updated :(
Currently the language packs on virtuemart.net are updated only when I manually pull the files from Transifex, because the cron job doesn't work anymore for some unknown reason. I did update the language packs a few hours after your previous post. At that time Spanish was at 99 percent. Just updated again...
Thank you very much! :D
Hi all,
I want to contribute to the translation team. I'm able to translate English to Dutch.
Just a comment, no direct action required:
On https://virtuemart.net/community/translations/virtuemart/nl-NL all the links are dead.
I'm logged in at transifex and am awaiting approval to join.
Hello.
I've applied for Lithuanian translation but so far nobody accepted me into the team.
I have some experience that Transifex isn't particulary good at notifying it's users on changes and requests so maybe team leader overlooked my request to join.
Is it possible to fix this by VirtueMart team?
