This is odd as nothing to my knowledge has changed on the site. Every product is showing its images twice?

There is something wrong with your template overrides, as there are two additional image divs in the code. Just look at the page code for <div class="additional-images">

assuming it would be in either:
/public_html/templates/templatename/html/com_virtuemart/productdetails/default.php
or
/public_html/components/com_virtuemart/views/productdetails/tmpl/default.php
but cant find anything like it ?

Actually John this site doesnt have Vmuikit installed, it does have the one page checkout plugin which has massively increased orders, but no Vmuikit.
I assume the issue i am having is coming from /public_html/templates/impress/html/com_virtuemart/productdetails/default_images.php but the file is the "default" so i cant see why i am getting the double images still?
The additional images are displayed with the template /templates/impress/html/com_virtuemart/productdetails/default_images_additional.php which will be included in the page by /templates/impress/html/com_virtuemart/productdetails/default.php
If you can't work the problem out you should ask the template developer.

I suppose you did solve your duplicate image issue, because at the time of writing this I don't see duplicate product images.
The 'strange' numbers in your above url were generated in your product alias form field because there is already a previously added product with the same name:

Yes thanks i just fixed it the issue was in
/public_html/templates/impress/html/com_virtuemart/productdetails/default.php
whilst setting up the vmreviews component i must have messed up somewhere not sure where but have replaced that file and all was ok.
