It seems to me that there is no way to have a multi language description of products and them related customfields... If I'm wrong please let me know.
Since now I've been able to use multilanguage only for product's description but not for customfields' description.

Custom fields are not translatable yet. At present only those fields which carry a flag are translatable.

Thank you for your reply.
In my opinion the customfield's translation lack is not a good thing because they specify important variants of the product and its price...
Do you know if this is an issue that will be fixed soon or if VM will never consider customfields translatable?

I have to correct myself  :-[ Custom fields ARE translatable!

Thank you for the suggestion, the override feature has been a discover for me!
This is a good step ahead but It doesn't work completely to me: now I'm able to translate the customfields name but I need to translate the variants too (i.e. the customfield is Colour and the variants are White, Yellow, Black, ...)
Is this possible?

Ah, and there is a bug in VM2's cart too:
when you use override system to translate the customfields, then in cart's page you see the key names you used and not the translated values...
Following the tutorial, if you override:
COM_VIRTUEMART_ART_DIMENSIONS="Dimensions"
in cart's page you'll see
COM_VIRTUEMART_ART_DIMENSIONS
instead of
Dimensions
:-(

Did you try to add the key/string to en-GB.mod_virtuemart_cart.ini, too? (I didn't test this myself yet)

I have the same problem,

one of the reaons i am using virtuemart2 is because of the multilingual funcionality.

I can translate the title of the custom fields, but i can;t translate the values of the custom fields, like color.
also the title of the custom field in the cart module is displayed as the string and not as the translation. So on the cart page i see: COM_VIRTUEMART_SIZE, and not "size" as i want it.
I need to deliver my site soon to my clients, so any help would be appriciated.

my conclusion now, based on the forums and experience wit vm2 is that it is not fully multilingual i am right?

is the translation of custom field titles and labels going to be adressed in the future. ? i still need it for my mulit lingual shop

A short tutorial describing how to do this is in the link already provided by me a few posts above.

You might have to add your keys/strings from ...\language\overrides\en-GB.override.ini and your translation ...\xx-XX.override.ini also to the en-GB.mod_virtuemart_cart.ini and your ...xx-XX.mod_virtuemart_cart.ini, too.
