Where should one begin to set up Paypal once they have a Paypal account?

Do we need to set up tokens or special setting within our Paypal account or hosting or...?
Ideally one comprehensive tutorial would be nice, but if there is no such tutorial then all links one needs to get this setup and going would helpful.

This is why I hate virtuemart sometimes.
Surely a step by step guide to setting up PayPal would be in the virtuemart docs somewhere??
