alphabet-menu: A B C etc. which link to all products starting with that letter?

I want to create a catalog/shop for my mums daylily's. She wants an alfhabet-navigation ABCDEFG etc. Each letter linking to all products starting with that letter.

How to go about that?

Should I make a category for each letter and then make a custom HTML module with links to each category? Or is there an easier way?
