How to keep a standard thumbnail size using"Default number of products per row"?

If I change the option "Default number of products per row" on a category so that I can fit 4 products on one row, Virtuemart wants to resize the thumbnails very small (even though my original size would fit in the frontend after this change), So, my question is: Is there a way to set it up so that Virtuemart would keep a consistent thumbnail size throughout my site? ie. the size I have selected the thumbs to be in the control panel -> configuration -> templates -section.

Found something on the net about this on some very old virtuemart versions and tried to find the correct place to modify css/cfg files but did not manage to find anything where I could change this on Virtuemart 2.02. Would really appreciate if someone could help me out here!
