Create Custom Field that reduces Item cost to Zero

Hi,

I was just wondering if someone had an idea of how to accomplish this. I was trying to create a custom field that when select would always reduce the items cost to 0. I know you can apply a negative number, but I was trying to accomplish something more universal regardless of the cost.

Basically I am trying to allow my customers to request a free sample of a product.
