Hi!

Can you write a short step by step tutorial to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance!

One things you should know that on the product page in the backend, you can select a language to insert the product information in different languages. A very usefull tool.

First of all u have to install al the right languag files first for virtuamart2. So you have to know if its available in your language. And install it.

second in configuration -> shop you have the option Multilingual shop. If u did install the language files you want to use, then you cant add them here.

Third, when using a multilangual shop with flags, you better use a multilangual extension like joomfish, its not available in joomla1.7, but for joomla 1.7 i use falang. Its uses the joom fish core.

basicly i got it working with, joomla 1.7.3 virtuemart 2 (stable) and falang mulitlanguage extension.

But one question and i cant figure this out: how can i translate the custom fields i manually add for product. for example i want color: i put in the fields green, red, white. But if i go to dutch language. I have to translate the words green, red, etc.

look for what i mean here: http://www.mongolianlife.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=productdetails&virtuemart_product_id=3&virtuemart_category_id=3&Itemid=118&lang=nl

i mean if virtuemart is truly multilangual, you have to be able to translate the custom field string value names. Otherwise can someone explain how i can make a custom field for color and be able to have the names of the colors multilanguel.?

I have the same problem here! There is no flag on custom fields in order to be translated like other features in VirtueMart. Please give us a solution or something to look forward to!

Thank you in advance!

Custom fields ARE translatable!
Please read this short tutorial: http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=96758.0

Thank you very much jjk for your reply! It works fine for the custom fields' title, but unfortunately can't make it work for the values I assign in the product or the tooltip in the custom fields. Could you help me also with that?

Thank you in advance!

Does anyone know how I can make virtuemart look up at the overrides file, also for the tooltip and the values of every custom field of every product as it is achieved with the above method for the custom fields' titles? Maybe the funtion $VM_LANG could be of any use?

Thanks in advance.

Christina, did u manage to translate the values of the custom fields, or the tooltip? I still didnt, and i am stuck with this.
I can translate the name of the custom field with the method of jjk.
But if i put for example: COM_VIRTUEMART_SIZE as a value and as a title, it will only translate the title and not the value itself.

So the problem remains,

practical problem: i want to sell boots in different colors, light brown, dark brown, whatever... but I can't translate the names of the colors in the appropiate language.

please help, why doesn't the languages override work for the values (and tooltip)?? of the custom fields.

Translating Custom Field values is available in 2.0.6
