PayPal API Vs Regular Paypal option
« on: November 22, 2011, 13:03:54 pm »
Hi there,
Im trying to set the paypal payment method and I dont understand the differences between the PayPal API(PP_API) to the regular PayPal option(PP) were you just add your email address.
Also , When activating the regular Paypal option by itself I get the following error when trying to make a purchase:

Not Acceptable

An appropriate representation of the requested resource /index.php could not be found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Any Ideas?
MAny thanks

the regular pp option,   the shopper can only use their credit card once or up to a unspecified dollar amount before they have to actually join pp to make a purchase

ppp the shopper can pay with a credit card without joining pp, and also,   they never have to leave your website to make the purchase, and the shopper never even has to know they are paying through pp, its seamless

there are customers that will no use payapl and will leave your site becuase they do not like pp. with ppp they do not know its paypal and just fill in the cc information on your site

Hi geekhead,
Many thanks for your reply! Really appreciate it.
Can I use the build in PP API to use paypal without the customer know about it
or do I need to get a third party module/extension?
If yes, can you please recommend of such?
Many thanks

Hi geekhead,
Thanks again foir your reply.
So in order to set up the PP API all I need is the following info:
API Username:
API Password:
Signature:
Do I need anything else?
How will it act? Meaning will the customer stay in my website or will it be directed into paypal?
Cheers

Ok I got it - inserted the API details and when making a call it takes me to paypal's website.
However, if I only activate the paypal API payment option I get the following error:
Not Acceptable
An appropriate representation of the requested resource /index.php could not be found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the reques

any ideas?
Many thanks

Hi,

What's the process to add the paypal api payment method, is there a payment script update somewhere? I have a newer version of virtuemart on another site and that has it built. I have updated from vm 1.5 to 1.9 using a patch but still not paypal api payment method.

I'm confudled!

Hi gunpowder,
In the VM back end  go to 'Payment Method List' and Choose the 'PayPal    PP_API    £0.00    -default-    HTML-Form based (e.g. PayPal)' option.
Inside you will need to supply the following info from your paypal account:
API Username:
API Password:
Signature
try this one:

Also, Im still NOT able to have the PAYPAL API as the only payment option on my website. Im getting an error when trying to complete the purchase.
I will appriciate if someone can help me with this one.
Cheers

Many thanks VM_Fans.
This is however a tutorial for normal paypal payment and not the API. Please see below is geekhead's post about the differences:

Quote
the regular pp option,   the shopper can only use their credit card once or up to a unspecified dollar amount before they have to actually join pp to make a purchase

ppp the shopper can pay with a credit card without joining pp, and also,   they never have to leave your website to make the purchase, and the shopper never even has to know they are paying through pp, its seamless

Hi geekhead,
Do you know why am I getting the following error when publishing the PP API by itself:

Not Acceptable

An appropriate representation of the requested resource /index.php could not be found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I know that the later on is cos I dont have an 404 page but why am I geting the first one?

Many thanks
