Database error during install

I'm using a 'new' joomla 1.7 without any additional addons (joomla 1.7.3, latest stable). I'm wanting to install virtuemart, using the extension manager and uploading com_virtuemart.1.9.8M.zip. This gives me the following error:

500 - An error has occurred.

JDatabaseMySQL::query: 1146 - Table 'dev.esyd7_virtuemart_adminmenuentries' doesn't exist SQL=SELECT count(id) AS idCount FROM `esyd7_virtuemart_adminmenuentries`
I hope there is an easy fix available to get started with virtuemart .
