Product stock not updated for attribute

Using
- Joomla 1.7
- Virtuemart 1.9.8.RC2J

In the test environment, you can purchase a circular saw with a shovel.  After purchasing and marking the order as shipped, the circular saw inventory was updated, but the shovel stock remained the same.  Should that not be updated also?
