Sort order not retained after product save

We are trying to use the "reorder" field that appears in the admin area under products, only after you have filtered down to a category.  We have changed our display / template to take account of that field.  I believe that field maps to jos_virtuemart_product_categories.ordering.  The problem occurs when one opens a product for edit and saves it as it seems to delete the content in that field.

confirming the bug on VM2.0
sort order and reorder of products doesn't work as expected.
