Our Store has vanished (after messing with categories)
« on: May 26, 2011, 19:21:08 pm »
One of our people was adding categories yesterday (and accidentally removed a number of products in the process, had to re-add them in), and now NOTHING shows up on our Store page in the website, which was showing up just fine until he took on this task.  I can see all of the categories listed in VM, all of the products, etc., and everything has been published, but no matter what I try to change (assigning everything to the top-level category, unpublishing the other categories after un-assigning all products in them) - nothing I do allows the store to display its products.  Can anyone suggest something that might be at the heart of this issue?

Firstly have you checked the server error logs?
Also is the product code etc actually in the page code but just not displayed or is there no vmMainPage content at all.

I've never had to check the error logs - where are they located?  (Sorry, guess we've been lucky so far!)  And nothing shows up in the page except an rss feed icon, a pdf icon, a print icon, and the VirtueMart logo - nothing product-related.

Some more things that might shed some light - when I hover over the rss icon, I see "Subscribe to the feed of the latest products in this category", and it appears to be sending a category ID of 6.  (However, we only have four categories defined - not sure what's going on.)

ARE you using the joomla menu system?

Is it because of a joomla link to the OLD category id?

I guess that's what I'm using - I go through the joomla menus to get to VirtueMart, and then Virtuemart menus appear for things like Category management, etc.  They appear specific to VirtueMart, not generic to Joomla.  Sorry, I haven't run into that question before in those terms.  As for the joomla link to the OLD category ID, perhaps - how would I be able to tell?

Do you have a backup of the working site that you can use?

Sadly, no.  Once we get things up and running again I'll have to make one - lesson learned the hard way.

- how would I be able to tell?

YOU open up the menu item. Then see if its assigned to a category ID, and make sure that category ID is still there

By "menu item" - do you mean open up a product?  If so, yes, the categories are all there that the products are assigned to.  I've also tried assigning all of the products to the top-level category, unpublishing the other categories that no longer have products assigned to them, and even creating new products without assigning any category at all - nonoe of these actions has changed the empty store page situation.  If you're talking about some other "menu item" other than products, please tell me what it would be listed as in the VirtueMart interface.  (I haven't ever seen something described as "menu items" in VirtueMart - please forgive my ignorance if I've missed something along the way.)

No, we've never connected anything in VirtueMart with Joomla menu items.

Thanks, but that doesn't describe the problem we're having.  I can get to VirtueMart from within Joomla administration - that's how we're working with categories, products, etc.  The problem is that the store contents - the list of products for sale - is not showing up on the store page of our website, and it did previously, before the catagories were edited.  You can see what I mean by going to http://rated-z.com/store - that's the empty storefront I'm trying to fix.
