css designer + menu editor needed

Hi there , i need someone to give me a hand with vm. i have 9 main categories and each one has 5-10 subs.

i want some help in designing a css horizontal menu bar where the main cats will be as buttons.
Also, according to which category is active, to show the subcategories of it on the left.

this might be hack of VirtueMart Product and Category Specific XHTML module.
