Yes, just set the VAT id to 6%, re-enter the Gross price to the original price(including tax/vat). The Net price will be recalculated automatically. Then set the Discounted Price, which is including tax/vat.

I did that... and it almost did what I wanted it too.

see here:

The problem I have is this...

1. the calculated tax is wrong... 499.95 * 6% = 29.997 ($30.00)

2. the Gross price I was treated as the MSRP and if I add the VAT then that gets inflated.  So now my discounted price is correct but my (Gross) or what I am calling MSRP is inflated.

Even this calculation is off.

It says 541.95 but if you add it all up it should be : $570.25

What I am expecting.. is

SubTotal = $499.95
Shipping and Handling Fee = $40.00
Tax Total = $30.00
Fee = $2.00
Total = $571.95

I've also noticed that this route also screws up the pricing for the Non-GA customers.

Instead of the product being 499.95 it now shows $460.05

What I was experiencing at my own site yesterday was that if you change any TAX settings, make sure you logout at the front end and clear you browser cache. Otherwise the site might show the wrong numbers.

FYI: I belief the topic would be easier to read if you use print screens with only the useful data, you might have to modify it a bit if there is some info in one corner and more info in the other. And if you have new info, place it in you last post if nobody posted after you last post. Thnx! :D

Not sure if this will be helpful, but I can say that few things in VM are as screwed up as the tax calculation.  If you have a single tax rate in your state applicable to all prducts then it usually seems to work.  I have multpie tax rates in WA state to deal with as well as destination based local tax rates.  I hired someone to solve the first problem and just plain ignored the second.  The downside it that I never did learn the basis for how the tax is calculated "right out of the box" but the hacke we designed did the job.

Since you tax rates calculation should be simple I suggest doing the following:

1. Go into VM admin and uncheck the box "show prices including tax where applicable".  In the USA we are acoostmend to seeing prices before tax.
2. Makes sure you have the correct tax mode set.  I think for most states selecting taxes based on shipping address works best.
3. Go into the tax rates table and see what you have.  If you have a single tax rate for your state use that number and delete everything else.
4.  Go into your VM products list and make sure the correct tax rate (VAT ID) is selected.  This migh be easiet to do from PhPMyAmin.
5.  Clear the cache and give it a test.

Not sure if this will make a difference but give it a try.

The problem with adding the VAT at the product level is that it adds the tax to my base price.

I do not want tax added at the product level.

I am really surprised that VM cannot do this simple task.

Only apply tax at the shopping cart and have the tax based upon the sub-total.

Of course VM can do what you want, the problem users don't read the manual or search

If I have to read the manual.. then VM is not that intuitive.

I will take your advice and look at it and search and see where I net.
