Multiupload error 406
« on: October 04, 2010, 23:31:43 pm »
I recently installed the VirtueMart Multiupload plugin.

If works perfectly for me. However my friend, who administers the same site from another computer, gets a 'error 406' message whenever he tries to use it.

I'm pretty sure we are both running Flash 10.1 (which obviates a previous bug).

Any suggestions please?

I have checked and find that the plugin works in Ubuntu/Firefox, but when I use Windows XP/IE  uploads fails with 'upload error 406'

Yes... I know... don't use Windows. That very good advice aside, does anyone know what is going on, please?

Solved it!(almost)

The problem is an Apache module called mod_security. Apparently, this acts like a firewall, blocking some of the security holes commonly used to hack websites.

I temporarily switched mod_security off by adding the following code to my .htaccess file.

<IfModule mod_securty.c>
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
</IfModule>

MultiUploader then worked perfectly when accessed through Internet Explorer under Windows XP.

Since MultiUploader works well under every other browser I have used without messing about with security settings, the question now is, do I really want to switch off a security measure in order to use Internet Explorer?

Hint. NO.

However, some clients don't want to change...

Any comments, suggests &/or better solutions very welcome!

You would not want to switch off mod_rewrite, or your SEF URLs will be dead.

Im getting an errorm 302 on this Multi Upload after working it perfectly for 5-6 months.

Weird, how this has happened.
Blissful!
